Focus Reader

Privacy Policy

Focus Reader is a free browser extension for Chrome and Microsoft Edge that makes web pages easier to read. This policy is short, because the extension collects nothing.

Last updated: 1 October 2026

We do not collect any personal data

Focus Reader does not collect, store on our servers, sell, or share any personal information. There is no tracking, no analytics, and no advertising in the extension, and there are no accounts.

Your settings stay with you

The extension saves your preferences (which reading aids are on, font, theme, speed, and so on) in your browser's built-in storage (chrome.storage). If you are signed into your browser, these settings may sync across your own devices through your browser account. They are never sent to us or to anyone else.

Page content never leaves your device

To apply a reading aid, such as the reading ruler, Bionic reading, or Chunked text, the extension reads and restyles the text of the page locally, in your browser. This happens only when you turn a reading aid on. Page content is not collected, stored, or sent anywhere.

Permissions we request

  • Storage — to save your preferences in your browser (and, if you choose, sync them across your own devices). Nothing else.
  • Access to web pages — so the reading aids can read and restyle the text of the pages you read. Used only on your device; no data is sent out.

No remote code, no network requests

All code runs from the installed extension. Focus Reader does not load or run remote code and makes no network requests. The OpenDyslexic font is bundled inside the extension, so no font server learns which pages you read.

This website

  • No cookies of any kind, no advertising pixels, no visitor profiles, no sign-up.
  • One small script from Cloudflare counts page visits. It uses no cookies and no fingerprinting, and it cannot tell who you are — only that a page was opened and from which country.
  • The theme and the language you pick are remembered in your own browser and are not sent anywhere.
  • Cloudflare, which hosts this website, processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the pages and protect the site. We do not store this data.

Children

Focus Reader collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update it on this page and change the date at the top.
